As per usual I’m working on a new app! This is an old passion project of mine that I’m glad I’m able to finally bring to life in a way that I’ve always wanted to.
The app is going to be called London Cyclist (after my website) and it involves an enormous database I’m putting together of every bike shop, bike rental, cycle cafe and community bike related business in London.
My dream is to connect London’s cycling community with the best bike businesses around. For example, business such as the Bike Kitchen. Where they won’t repair your bike for you, instead they’ll teach you how to do it. Or 56a bike space. A community initiative that hires disadvantages people and teaches them how to repair bikes.
Most people rarely hear about these and I’d love for them to be better known.
The app will list opening times, their website, phone number and even their twitter profiles so that people can directly tweet businesses from the app.
In addition, I’d like to eventually add in details of bike events in London. This will bring the community together so that they can meet fellow cyclists and build connections. It will also list protest rides, to increase participation.
To manage to pay for development I’ll be charging bike shops for a space in the app.
I’m starting this project on the iPhone and I’m hoping it will be done by the end of August.
